Alexis Wong

Alexis (she/her) explores thresholds and transitions through sculptures, sound, and moving images. Her work often begins with some form of movement, rhythm, or mechanism, focusing on the tension between the seemingly perpetual repetitions of these elements and the inevitable decay of matter over time.Her works are mutable, seeking ways to adapt to their surroundings, mostly through mimicking, yet are often trapped in an awkward state of failed transitions, on the edge of function and malfunction. Alienated yet parasitic, they are often found in a constant flux of connecting, converging, and evolving, meandering through time and space. They grow and expand like rhizomes, flow and converge like rivers. They remain ambiguous. This ambiguity, perhaps, is what shapes them into both vulnerable and powerful beings.
